She's making jewelry Now

Haha. I had a lovely meal with a couple of beautiful friends last night and we were talking about life direction, and opportunities. One of my friends suggested a life philosophy of  looking at all of the options, like hey, you ever know. She gave the example of her daughter applying for an ROTC scholarship, even though she did not want to pursue an army career, and she got it! Of course she did not pursue it, and is now working with Nicaraguans in Costa Rica, but there is something to be said for pursuing things.

Like this guy...

Haha.  oh boy, but at least he knows, hopefully, at some point, where he needs to improve his skill set. Meanwhile, people are cheering him on and supporting me. So, I get a newsletter from Good Food Jobs, a website that offers listings for internships, jobs and the like in organizations, companies, restaurants and such,  jobs that promote healthy food thinking. They also have articles featuring people who are making a difference in good food jobs and whohave a visionto change the world. In this newsletter, there was a challenge to apply for a scholarship to a Summer intensive about sustainable food systems and other cool things! It is a 5-week course, and well, frankly, going to school in Vermont for 5 weeks sounds absolutely splendid! There are field trips! The first curse involves lessons on butchering and fermentation! whattt? oh yeah. haah So, I applied for one of the scholarships and this is what I wrote to answer the questions:
"What’s your dream job in food, and why? If you could be compensated for a job well done in something other than food, what would it be, and why?"

My dream job in food would be to have an awesome kitchen where I cooked food for people, invited them to join me in the process, educated them a little bit about the food they would be making. Also, I would love to make food for people on a small scale, helping people to eat more healthily, providing  service to people who feel they lack time to prepare proper meals for themselves.

Outside of food, I would love to be paid to do what I am already doing, that matters in my life! I am a music leader at my church, supervising a group of musicians who have a heart for the value of worship in the lives of people who pursue the life of Jesus. Also, I get to help out my friends in various  ways, cleaning and preparing for our after school program, volunteer coordinating in the summer and supporting service opportunities on the West side of Buffalo, whether it is planting tulip bulbs around new trees, hauling wood on the urban farm, driving neighborhood kids to the ice skating rink, documenting neighborhood events with my camera, well, the list goes on. The life I live is the one for which I would love compensation! I am open to so many things right now. Will you help me to explore this avenue?

It seems I know what I love my days to look like; I just do not know how to get there, all the way. I do think that this Summer Intensive could be a step in the right direction. Besides,I have never even been to Vermont...but I digress ( Shocker!)

I believe that this is a door that I was meant to walk through, despite the outcome. It is, in a way, a pursual of my dreams,,,and it is a healthy way of doing it, so I am doing it, checking out my options. It is my ROTC. It is my making jewelry now. :)

What is yours?
